Switchboard was built at Swarthmore College in 2015, and registration is currently limited to students at Swarthmore College.

How it works:
Starting a chat is as simple as clicking a board, and then sending a message. The Operator takes care of the rest. You can only be in one chat at a time.
Joining a board allows you to receive a conversation on that board whenever you’re available.
Join as many boards as you like, and change them on the fly. Looking for a friend for your allnighter? Join #niteowl, and then leave when your paper is done.You can connect to boards you haven’t joined - someone in #engin can always make a friend in #art.
Block users you dont want to talk to again. Report users who break the rules.
Go offline when you don’t want to be messaged - like when you’re in class. Remember to come back online!
